Today at 12:30 pm we met for the Tactical Strength II class. This was man country today, though it was not that last year. We had some wildland firefighters, a paramedic and one civilian. The wildland guys had done quite a bit of training with me last winter, and under the watchful eye of Rita their commander, during the fire season. They demonstrated near perfect deadlifts and military press. We did some very heavy one handed deadlifts, up to 150 pounds, with a 70 & 80 pound kettlebell hooked together in one hand. We also did heavy, suitcase deadlifts, which challenge torso stability in unique ways.
Although this class often includes brutal training, it also has an important injury proofing element, and discussion of training program design. Today we addressed correct emotional arousal level for exercise, skill training, firefighting in controlled conditions, and firefighting in a crisis. If you find any of this interesting, come to MMA Friday at 12:30 pm.
